Karl Lagerfeld imagined, wrote and directed a magnificent short film entitled The Tale of a Fairy to accompany his Cruise 2011/12 collection for Chanel. The film was screened at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Cap d'Antibes in May, where the collection was also presented. The incredible cast reunites household names such as Chanel ambassadress and French actress Anna Mougalis, fashion empress Amanda Harlech, models Kristen McMenamy, Bianca Balti, Freja Beha or Baptiste Giabiconi among many other friends of the House of Chanel.
Asked to comment on his movie, Karl Lagerfeld described it as "a movie about an ill-advised use of money which begins with violence and ends with feeling". The movie depicts a moment in the life of a very wealthy, but dysfunctional family. It revolves around intrigues, chic parties and casinos, a beautiful mansion and the breathtaking view of the ocean and the rocks of Cap d'Antibes - a tale of grandeur and decay, jealousy and unexpected feelings, where reality and imagination are subtly separated through the use of colors.
The clothes are amazing, evoking the style of the collection worn by the models on the runway that same day. Long, flowy dresses or loose trousers, the usual mix of black and white and lots of pearl necklaces. Everything was flawless, from the opening outfit of Kristen McMenamy to the magnificent white dress with an embroidered back worn by Anna Mougalis in the bedroom and Casino scenes. The design of the house was also impeccable, from the bedrooms to the dining table and the party hall. Here are some quick snapshots:
Enjoy the movie!
